We have already ran a One-2-One portrait workshop with Pam a few months back and it was a huge success and Pam took some amazing photos that you can see here on our Hampshire photography training website by simply clicking the link below.

Pam has since decided to go full time into Photography which makes me very happy and after a brief chat Pam decided to book our very popular marketing course to start her off on the right path.

We have helped dozens of people with their marketing both new and seasoned photographers and we have had some amazing results too, Pam booked our half day course and with a little head spinning we managed to get through everything before the day was over.

I am sure Pam will make a go of things and will move forward to become one of Aldershot’s great photographers and thanks to our day she now has the knowledge and more important a brilliant business plan to move forward with.

We are both excited to see what Pam does now.

Yesterday we ran one of our One-2-One Landscape photography days for Steve and Ian and we had the most amazing day, We run this day through-out the year because our amazing landscape changes almost daily but yesterday we were very fortunate to enjoy a warm sunny day so we headed to Dorset at 6am to make the most of our day.

Steve’s wife Helen purchased the day as a gift for Steve who is a keen amateur photographer and we got to know them since photographing their wedding almost 7 years ago and since photographing them and their extended family as well as their amazing daughter Molly who is one of our Baby jp babies.

We started our day down on the beach at Lullworth cove and had a lovely hour capturing some beautiful morning light photographs before heading off for coffee and cake which was much needed energy for our next trek to Durdle Door which I must say looked amazing in the mid morning light with the most spectacular sprinkling of fluffy cloud to compliment the crystal clear water. We spent a few hours exploring the cost from different angles and vantage points making the most of our Lee filters to bring out the amazing colours of the sky and seascapes.

These photographs are all 90% in camera with only a tiny amount of editing to crop and add a little saturation which is always needed when shooting raw using the cameras creative and manual modes.

We then headed off for lunch and to Portland Bill to photograph the lighthouse again from several different vantage points which was a lot of fun playing with the sun from different angles and we all had a fab time and took some fabulous photographs which I am sure will be up on the walls of Steve and Ian’s house in no time.

This landscape and filter workshop is a 3 part workshop so check out the link below for details, like Steve you can choose to share this day with a friend for only £300 each and make massive savings and you still get One-2-One with both Sue and I as tutors.

Here are a few images we took yesterday.

A few weeks back we were contacted by digital photographer magazine who wanted to publish an article about JpWorkshops and our One-2-One training days and needless to say we were very excited, Apparently the buzz had got back to one of their reporters who came along with a photographer to follow us through one of our One-2-One workshops on Portraiture, They contacted Matt Hardy from Mathew hardy photography who is already a photographer and avid reader of Digital Photographer Magazine and Matt kindly agreed to allowing them to follow his day with us. Matt has already completed a JpWorkshops One-2-One when he started his photography business and wanted to get into Studio photography on a more serious basis so chose our very popular Portrait One-2-One workshop.

The Portrait workshop is a full action packed day starting at 9am and finishing at 5pm and will give you the perfect start to setting up your portrait studio or home visit service, Sue & I will show you how we create beautiful high key portraits either in our studio or on location at your clients houses using our portable studio which fits neatly into almost any car, we have a mini cooper and its fits a treat.

You will come away with a first hand experience on lighting for high key as well as low key if required, we will teach you about posing and having fun with your clients and most importantly we will show you how to creatively edit your portraits to produce beautiful photos just like we do, photos that sell very well.

Your day will include: The morning will be a brief introduction to lighting and location before our first model arrives, Our model will work with you (guided by us) for around 90 minutes at which point we will move onto editing and questions.

We will then break for lunch which we will supply. The afternoon will start with creative ideas for marketing portraits before our second model arrives, she will stay with us for a couple of hours and will change cloths a couple of times. We will them move back to editing and processing so that you come away with a beautiful set of images that you took and we edited. You can use the photographs taken with both models to start your portfolio which will be a fantastic head start. you will also receive our ” Portrait actions” for photoshop.

Our courses are a little different than most professional courses on offer, you get training from 2 fully qualified and very popular photographers, Julian Porter LMPA and Sue Porter LMPA and we supply a range of models to suit your request’s where possible, these are always clients of ours and not models, It has to be said that any photographer worth mentioning can make a model look amazing on a bad day but with a “regular” person you have to work at it and we want our clients to work at it and not think everybody poses like a model and is easy to shoot, models are amazing to work with but they make our life too easy, clients demand amazing photos and thats what keeps us striving for better all of the time. We want our JpWorkshop clients to leave feeling the same.

For Matt’s day we used the lovely Kayleigh, she is our daughter and manages a Costa Coffee shop for a living so with her long shifts we rarely get to photograph her but luckily she was free so Matt got a lovely client to photograph and Sue and I got some amazing photos of our daughter, thanks Matt

We offer a huge range of workshops from an evening taster to see if you like our style or if you just want to brush up on settings through to a full 2 day intense business and portrait workshop. All of our workshops are bespoke and we can set a plan to suit your needs and concentrate on what you need rather than what we think you need and details can all be found on our website hampshire photography training by Julian Porter

Matt’s course details

Digital photographer magazine

Our website

Matt’s workshop was fee £520.00 and this course is aimed at professional photographers looking to photograph in a studio or photographers wanting to start up in business and can be tailored accordingly.

**Please note we do use professional models for our Ecole Boudoir workshops due to the nature of the work**

Sue and I would personally like to thank some of our other victim’s oop’s I mean models who have helped us with our workshops over the past couple of years.

Richard and Kate with Lani and Elsie. - Clare Wall with Molly and Ella. - Gemma McGlashan. - Rachel Northover. - Hollie Palmer. - Kayleigh Porter. - Katy and Scott with Millicent, Marta and Marius. – Amy Ann. – Kathryn Booy. – Nikki Stead with Illan.

Today we had our second workshop of this week again taken at Marwell Zoo. Sue and I love Marwell and its the perfect place for us to take our Hampshire Photography workshop clients and they love it too. Today’s workshop was with one of our lovely wedding clients Hannah and was a gift from her husband Eddie, you can check out their wedding from 2008 here.

Eddie brought Hannah a new Nikon D3100 for Christmas and part of the gift was her workshop today. We started our day in the studio going through the camera and settings as well as the advantages in shooting in the 2 creative modes Aperture priority and Shutter priority both of which we used today at Marwell. After our classroom part this morning we went to Marwell and starting with the duckpond we made our way around the park with Hannah capturing some beautiful shots as you will see below. After we had finished at the park we made our way back to the JP workshops studio to start our photo sorting and editing which was a lot of fun.

Hannah had a great day and we were delighted with the photos that she took using her Nikon 3100 and her 18-55mm kit lens as well as our 50mm 1.4 and out 70-200mm 2.8 which together made a great combo.

Please contact us if you are looking for a photography workshop of any-kind 02380 767084 julianporter@mac.com or txt 07720325336

Check our full hampshire photo workshop educational courses here

Please let us know what you thing of Hannah’s day.

The first shot of the ducks might not set the world on fire but it perfectly demonstrates the correct use of a very fast aperture to create a very shallow Depth of field as well as the correct use of focus points, well done Hannah, cracking job !

Todays workshop at Marwell was a whole lot of Fun, We have a call a in November from a Mum wanting to buy a workshop voucher for her twin sons Simon and Peter, Well this morning they promptly arrived looking almost identical and not helped with matching cameras and bags But as always we rose to the challenge and I never even asked Simon and Peter to wear a name badge

Simon and Peter are both studying away from home at Uni and both love there photography and wanted to get some photography education with their new D5100 Nikon Cameras although they both had lots of time playing with my my D4′s too, After our initial classroom part we headed up to marwell for a couple of hours and the boys took some great photos, some of animals we have not shot before so all very interesting, We try to avoid marwel at half term but we have 2 this week

After a couple hours at Marwell we came back to the studio to do some editing in Lightroom and Photoshop and I am pleased to say that with my supervision they edited these themselves which is always our aim all going well, We also took a few shots in the studio to explain in detail how Aperture priority can completly change the way a photograph looks.

Here are a few of the boys photos, all shot to practice shooting with a shallow depth of field, some through thick dirty glass and others through wire and I think you will agree they are fab and show lots of promise.

If you would like a workshop please check our out Hampshire Photography Workshops WEBSITE

Or contact us here. 02380 767084 julianporter@mac.com or txt 07720325336

Check our vouchers here

Here are a few photos from today, Please let me and the boys know what you think.

This first one was shot through thick fence wire.

This one was shot through very thick and very dirty glass and in todays sun thats great going.

Probably my favourite chipmunk photo yet, shot through very tiny square cages.

Again this one was shot through glass.

This was probably the shot of the day, both the boys got similar and equally as good shots (see what I did there boys) but I love the stare.

My fav animals at Marwell they were sleepy but still we got the look!

Last night we had one of our One-2-One introduction to SLR photography workshops with Jo Ewart from Fareham. Jo is off on an amazing American adventure and wanted to get to grips with her Canon 550D before she goes in June. We spent the evening learning about my 2 favourite camera mode aperture priority and shutter priority and how using them can change the look of your photos and help create the artistic photographs you strive for.

We also spent 30 minutes exploring and explaining in Lightroom to Jo as well as editing her photos below.

After our classroom part Jo shot a few photos, still life juicy red apples as well as a few other bits and you can tell instantly where Jo focused and how she used the depth of field to create a more artistic and interesting photograph.

We had a fun evening with Jo and cant wait to see some of her American adventure photos.

Here are a few of Jo’s photos demonstrating Depth of field here at hampshire educational photographers workshops by Julian Porter JP workshops.

On Sunday Sue and I ran one of our very successful One-2-One workshops for a budding photographer Pamela Park who wants to make a living shooting portraits. Pam booked our Portrait workshop which is a full and very intense day starting with the basics working through to setting up studio lights and moving on to shooting for a full day. On Sunday we had 3 lovely young ladies modelling for us, Ella and Molly in the morning and Hollie in the afternoon, we choose not to use professional or even amateur models for these days because its just as important that our clients get used to working with real people rather than experienced models who move and pose perfectly. After our first shoot we chatted about the lighting and then moved onto Lightroom and Photoshop for some editing, already Pam had trouble containing her excitement as the images loaded, she truly did take some beautiful photos which we started to edit.

After lunch our second “model” for the day arrived and we set to work photographing Hollie using several different backdrops and lighting and had another hour of fun, we then moved onto editing again and this time Pam did 90% of the editing working within our famous “1 minute edit” and she produced some beautiful work as you will see here. After our editing we moved back to chat about the day and a quick Q-A session before Pam left with a head that was buzzing Job done…

Pam arrived with a Canon 450D and both kit lenses as well as a 50mm 1.8 and her work will be available soon on her website

These photos were all taken by pam and most were also edited by Pam, except for the last one which is Pam at work. also you will see I crept into one

Yesterday we ran one of our One-2-One Getting to know your camera half day workshops with Lisa Dod, Last year Lisa attended one of our introduction to SLR photography courses and like may others decided to come back for some One-2-One tuition. Lisa is off on a walking holiday in Costa Rica so wanted to learn a few new camera skills, as you can see from the photos below she did very well, the Snow leopard was shot through very thick and dirty glass and the chipmunk through very thick wire, these are just a few of the tips and tricks we teach.

We can tweak our One-2-One days to suit our clients and Marwell suited Lisa perfectly, we did a combination of shots using our AV (aperture priority) settings but also spoke a lot about using TV settings (shutter priority) because lisa plans to photograph some very fast moving frogs whilst she is there. Lisa also plans to photograph some waterfalls which is another passion of mine so we gave her some great tips for that too.

We teach all sorts of photography courses all over Hampshire both indoor and out including at our studio, you can team up with a pal to reduce the cost and this makes for a real fun day, message me for details ! let us know your passion and we will try to accommodate you during your hampshire photography course here at JP workshops by Julian and Sue Porter LMPA.

We look forward to seeing Lisa’s photos after her trip when she returns for our photo editing workshop here in Southampton.

Yesterday as well as running one of our “Introduction to DSLR evenings” we also had a One 2 One workshop with Matt Hardy who is a local part time and very talented photographer who is looking to improve his studio portraiture, we have run several workshops with Matt over the years and each time he gets better and better so looks to move into different areas, IMO the sign of a great photographer.

Yesterday we were teaching Matt the skills involved with high key and low key photography as well as editing and workflow and we had a great day, we were actually joined by a major photography magazine who I am pleased to say are running a story on JP Workshops but more on that later.

Yesterday Matt setup the lights and posed the shots and used a Canon 5D Mkll with a 24-70 2.8L lens

Matt took our One 2 One Portrait Workshop

Here are a few of Matt’s photo’s.

Today Sue and I ran our One-2-One Portraiture workshop for 2 local ladies, Elaine and Lucia work and live locally and also run a local Beauty pageant so wanted to brush up on their photography skills. The arrived along with their Canon 600D and a few lenses. We started our day going over the camera and settings as well as our studio setup settings and soon got to grips with our studio lights and within a few minutes were taking some amazing photos of our first model Gemma, we then moved on to our second model Rachel and again they produced some beautiful photographs.

We also covered shooting in AV mode to help with the catwalk side of the pageants and again the ladies did very well, as well as editing these photos in photoshop and lightroom.

the best part about our One 2 One workshops is we can tailor our workshops to suit your needs no matter what your level is, Here are a few photos that Elaine and Lucia took today.
